Windows 8 Consumer Preview Compatible

The latest release of WCS Touch Browser v. 20.2 is now tested to be compatible with the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

This version brings with it the capability to share the profile (bookmarks, pinned tabs etc.) across multiple partitions on a computer. This can be useful as most people would be running Windows 8 on their existing computers with Windows 7 or an older version of Windows already installed.

To set this, you can launch the Browser while in Windows 8 and go to Settings > Browser Settings > Set Browser Profile Path. Now browse to the Documents folder of your older OS (ex: Windows 7, it will be in a different partition than the Windows 8 OS) and select any file within the "WCSTouchBrowser" folder and click Open. That's it!

Now your profile folder has been set to a common destination and you can easily switch between the two OS's and not miss any of your saved bookmarks etc.Hope you like this new update!

Friday, June 10, 2011

You may have noticed more frequent updates for the past week. Yesterday, version 9.1 was released and here are some of the salient changes since the last major update.

1) Fast Surf Bar is more intuitive to use. Pages move in the direction of your finger.

2) Touch-friendly lists. All list items are activated by a single-click now. (Some of them used to require double-taps earlier like traditional windows controls.)

3) Option to bring the Minimize, Maximize and Exit controls in a single menu to provide more space for tabs.

4) Left panel with quick access to Favorites, Bookmarks, Tabs and History. All the lists can be scrolled with a touch flicking action. Some may find these lists easier to use than the traditionally used tabs at the top. Give it a try.

5) Better orientation change support: Bigger URL bar and easy access to Navigation controls and Tools even in the portrait mode.
